RCMP investigating after three teens hit by truck

Yellowknife RCMP are investigating after three teenage boys were hit by a truck last night.

At around 1:25 a.m. last night Yellowknife RCMP attended a call for service reporting a motor vehicle collision with pedestrians. Three teenage boys were struck while crossing at the crosswalk at the corner of Range Lake Road and Woolgar Avenue.

The RCMP, City of Yellowknife Emergency Response Unit and Municipal Enforcement Division attended the scene. The boys were brought to the Stanton Territorial Hospital by the driver that hit them before RCMP arrived on the scene, but when RCMP got to the hospital, the vehicle was no longer there. RCMP spoke to the three youth, all of whom received treatments for non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP continued their search for the suspect vehicle which was described as a newer model Ford F-150.

Later that day at 4:00 am, RCMP received a report about a possible impaired driver. RCMP stopped the vehicle, which matched the description of the vehicle in the earlier collision, and began an impaired [driving] investigation.

The investigations are continuing, and no charges or offences have been identified at this time.

“This type of incident can be traumatic for all parties involved,” states Marie York-Condon, Northwest Territories RCMP Media Relations.

“We are thankful the injuries appear to be non-life threatening. RCMP are seeking information from whomever may have witnessed the incident, or have security footage of the location. If you have any information, please call the RCMP.”
