Hay River’s new midwives celebrate delivery of first baby

Hay River’s new midwives have delivered their first baby.

The town’s health authority says a healthy 7 lb 9.5 oz boy was born on Wednesday, February 25. Mother and baby are reportedly doing well and returned home within 24 hours.

“I have been looking forward to this first birth since arriving here in Hay River,” said midwife Toni Fehr.

Colleague Heather Heinrichs said: “I don’t think we could have asked for a smoother first birth here. It’s great to see all the work we’ve been doing training the staff and setting up the program put into action.”

Fehr and Heinrichs started providing services in the community three months ago. Fehr previously worked in Winnipeg, while Heinrichs came to the town from Toronto.
