Hockey legend to visit Yellowknife next week

An NHL legend will be visiting Yellowknife next week.

The City of Yellowknife is hosting motivational speaker Reggie Leach next Thursday at the Yellowknife Community Arena.  A proud member of the Berens River First Nation, Leach encourages youth to make positive lifestyle choices and helps people see the benefits of hard work and commitment.

Leach is a National Hockey League (NHL) legend, coach, keynote speaker, and role model for Indigenous youth.   One of his great joys is speaking to Indigenous youth to motivate them to work towards their dreams. He also addresses bullying, poverty, alcohol and drugs, and promotes education by following the Seven Grandfather Teaching.

Leach is a retired right winger who played 13 seasons in the NHL and was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame last week.  He is also an inductee in the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Hall of Fame and has received a National Aboriginal Achievement Award.

The event will start at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, at the Yellowknife Community Arena, 6004 Franklin Avenue. Residents are invited to bring their lunch and enjoy this event.  Leach will be available after the event to sign autographs.
