Construction season begins in Yellowknife

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority has completed their ‘52 Improvements in 52 Weeks’ initiative, a campaign focused on making small but meaningful changes throughout the organization.

Another bear has reportedly been killed after wandering in the Northlands area of Yellowknife. Last week, a black bear was killed by wildlife officials when deterrence efforts failed after it was spotted wandering through the residential area. Wildlife experts say multiple factors could be leading to bear encounters and much of it goes beyond "bear behaviour." Factors like deforestation from wildfires could be leading bears to seek out food in places further from their natural habitat.

To further their shared goals of increasing housing supply and strengthening infrastructure, the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of Canada have entered into two agreements to provide over $655 million in housing and infrastructure. 

The Government of the Northwest Territories has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the NWT Art Centre Initiative (lead by the Friends of the Northwest Territories Art Gallery) to support the development of a non-commercial art gallery in the NWT.

The City of Yellowknife is alerting residents that some buildings and services in the city will have altered hours or be closed entirely this upcoming Monday for the Civic Holiday.
