Avalon Rare Metals receives permit to start pre-construction work at Nechalacho Rare Earth Project

Yellowknife, NWT – Avalon Rare Metals has received its ‘Class A’ Land Use Permit from the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board to start pre-construction work at the Nechalacho Rare Earth Project.

It’s located on Thor Lake, about 100 kilometres east of Yellowknife.

The company says the permit allows it to begin low impact activities including site preparation, early camp erection and infrastructure development including roads, power and water treatment.

Avalon says the permit also allows it to keep the mine construction on schedule and be ready to open in either 2017 or 2018.

The company is continuing the application process for securing full construction and operations permits by early 2015.

It says as many as 200 people could be working at the site on once it’s fully operational.

Rare earth metals are used for things like cell phone components and parts for electric car motors.
