Cambrian College student from Yellowknife makes Cisco “Dream Team”

26-year-old Jeffrey Watson from Yellowknife is heading to Florida in June, where he will take his place as the only Canadian on the 11-member 2018 Cisco Live “Dream Team” at the Cisco Live event in Orlando.

Watson graduates next month from the Computer Systems Technology program at Cambrian College of Applied Arts and Technology in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

As a member of the Dream Team, Watson will help deploy and support the Network Operations Center at Cisco Live, Cisco’s largest customer event, with nearly 30, 000 expected attendees, according to a press release from Cambrian College

In his application video, which is filmed at a variety of Yellowknife landmarks, Watson talks about his interest in networking and plans for after graduation in June 2018.

“I am very motivated to acquire skills that I can bring back with me to the North,” said Watson.

His application video was chosen as Best Video Submission, landing him a spot on the team.

“Without a doubt, Jeff Watson is the kind of person you want on your dream team. This is a big deal and we’re all so proud that Jeff was chosen,” said Bob Vachon, Coordinator of Cambrian’s Computer Systems Technology and Network Technician programs.

“Jeff has maintained an impressive 3.6 G.P.A. and now stands to graduate with Scholar standing! He is a natural team leader who is mature, empathetic, inclusive, and with a cheery attitude and big smile. Cisco is a worldwide leader in IT and networking and is also a great partner with Cambrian. Jeff is going to get some serious and high-level exposure to the industry right after graduation.”

There are no words to describe how incredible it feels to make the Cisco Live Dream Team. I felt as though I made my hometown of Yellowknife and my family proud,” Watson said.

“The day I learned I made the team was the best day of my life and I could not have achieved this without my amazing instructors at Cambrian College.”
