Yellowknife-born actress Margot Kidder dies at age 69

Yellowknife-born actress and activist Margot Kidder has died.

Kidder was born in Yellowknife in 1948, and first rose to fame in 1978 playing Lois Lane in the Superman films.

The actress died in her sleep May 13 at her home in Livingston, Montana.

The Yellowknife street Lois Lane in Old Town was named after Kidder’s character from the films.

Nearly 50 bottles of alcohol seized in alleged bootlegging incident

Following an alleged bootlegging incident Tuktoyaktuk police reported that they have seized nearly 50 bottles of alcohol. A man who was not identified is now facing charges. Officers said that in late November they received a tip that someone had purchased what was described as a “significant” amount of alcohol.

Vigil calls for collective action against gender-based violence

A crowd of people gathered at a public vigil for the Day of Remembrance and Action on Dec. 6 for those who have been affected by gender-based violence. In the territory, over a hundred people gathered to remember those who have faced and continue to face gender based violence.
