Missing person’s body found in Hay River

Park was reported missing on April 4th.

Hay River RCMP are reporting the body of Junghwan ‘David’ Park has been found.

On Sunday afternoon, a Hay River resident noticed an unusual formation in the snow; it was the body of David Park.

Hay River RCMP attended the scene by snow machine and recovered the body while working with the NWT Coroner Service.

Park was last seen at a Hay River convenience store on April 3rd. He was reported missing by his co-workers the next day. David had since been the subject of a wide spread search, reaching as far as Alberta.

Park is originally from Korea and the RCMP has been working with the Korean Consulate. It was previously reported that Park was limited in his English.

Media Relations for the Northwest Territories RCMP, Marie York-Condon, thanked the public for helping in the search, despite the heartbreaking result.

The discovery of the deceased male is believed to be that of David Park. We are working with the NWT Coroner Service to continue the investigation. We thank everyone, the co-workers, the community of Hay River, the neighbouring police jurisdictions, and the public in general for their concern and search efforts.

A post-mortem autopsy has been ordered by NWT Coroner Service. RCMP are assisting with the investigation.
