Fort Simpson RCMP and NT RCMP Major Crimes have given an update on a homicide investigation that dates back to 2014.
Fort Simpson RCMP began a missing person’s investigation in January, 2014. Police would later find the body of Billy Cholo in a gazebo.
Since the discovery of Cholo’s body, the RCMP have followed any and all leads. This led to an arrest in 2017. The suspect was later released with no charges.
Recently, a Fort Simpson man’s ‘What Happened to Billy Cholo’ stickers have attempted to keep the file in the public’s eye. RCMP are now offering an update on the case.
“Anytime a community member brings positive attention to an unsolved file, the RCMP are supportive of their actions,” says Marie York-Condon, Media Relations for the NWT RCMP. “They are keeping Billy’s name and file in the minds of the citizens. If this initiative brings one tip or lead forward, we will have more today than we did yesterday. We still believe there are person(s) who have crucial information that have yet to come forward. We encourage them to do so today, as soon as possible.”
