Hay River areas being exhausted in search for missing person

Hay River RCMP continue to search for Junghwan ‘David’ Park.

Park, 34, was last seen on April 3rd at a local convenience store. His co-worker reported him missing the next day.

Organized searches have persisted. One of the most recent searches featured a helicopter covering an aerial viewpoint on April 12. That search lasted for 6 hours.

The RCMP says that areas surrounding Hay River are becoming exhausted to search, with Park remaining missing.

Police are now suspecting a possible hitchhiker scenario. With Hay River’s positioning near the major highway, as well as the ice road up north, they’re asking motorists and commercial drivers who may have picked up or offered a ride for anyone matching David’s description from April 3rd onward. They say the person may not be aware that David has been reported missing.

David Park is described by police as Korean descent, 5’8”, roughly 150 lbs with a slight build, short black hair and brown eyes. They have added that he speaks Korean with limited English.

Media Relations for the Northwest Territories RCMP Marie York-Condon says it’s possible he may have hitched a ride.

Tourism and commercial driving on the north’s ice roads draw many people to the North. Anyone of them may have offered a ride to David (Junghwan Park) and not be aware he has been reported missing. We are asking anyone who may have had contact with David to please report it to the Hay River RCMP.

The investigation continues.

If anyone has any information on David’s whereabouts or has any information regarding this missing person to please contact Hay River RCMP at 867-874-1111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, nwtnutips.com, (click on “submit a web tip”) or text: nwtnutips to 274637.
