Les Miserables comes to Yellowknife

Yellowknife, NWT – For the very first time, Les Miserables is coming to a stage in Yellowknife.

Ptarmigan Ptheatrics will present the musical at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre Thursday night.

The musical’s artistic director is Roy Williams.

He says anyone going tonight is in for a treat.

“We don’t have a red carpet but we have a red drink that we’re going to give to everyone that comes. We’ll be giving them a mocktail called the barricade. We want people to dress up if they wish in the theme of the show so come like the poor or come like the rich.”

Williams says he has been trying to bring the musical to the NWT capital for some time now.

“I’ve been waiting for the rights to become available for some 10 years and they became available about one year ago so we immediately applied and were granted the rights to do it in Yellowknife. This is an international that plays in Japan, France and London.”

Williams says the non-profit theatrical company is run exclusively by Yellowknifers.

Thursday night’s performance starts at 7:30.
