The City of Yellowknife is hosting an open house tonight to discuss their bid to win up to $5 Million in Smart Cities Challenge funding.
The City is in partnership with Ecology North and Northlands Utilities for the Challenge.
The Smart City Challenge is a National challenge for communities of all sizes. It’s meant to encourage communities to adopt approaches that will help better the lives of its residents through innovation, data and connected technology.
The City of Yellowknife says one of its goals is to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy our extraordinary natural beauty by spending more time outdoors. Deputy Mayor Adrian Bell says a number of ideas have been discussed.
“[We’ve talked about] using street light poles to install technology that will create Wi-Fi hotspots or the installation of smart pads for information purposes such as providing maps.”
