Coroner report for 2016 death released

The Northwest Territories Coroner Service has released its report on the death of David Vinnicombe.

Vinnicombe, 19, was killed on a worksite just outside of Inuvik in 2016. The Coroner has ruled the death of Vinnicombe as an accident, but cited there was no evidence of any training on safe work practices of the operated machine having taken place.

Last month, the contracting company that Vinnicombe had worked for appeared in court.

They were fined $100 000 for failing to ensure a safe workplace.

The money was to be paid to the Workers’ Protection Fund.
