NTPC plans outages in Fort Smith

The Northwest Territories Power Corporation is advising customers in the Fort Smith area that planned power outages will be taking place on Sunday.

Fort Smith is currently co-hosting the Arctic Winter Games. The outages will take place after the Games have ended – meaning the AWG will not be impacted.

NTPC says customers within the Town of Fort Smith will not be affected by the outages. The first set of outages will run from 9:00 – 11:00 am on Sunday morning, affecting “Border Town, Fort Fitzgerald, the golf course and ski club.” The second set will take place from 1:00 – 3:00 pm on Sunday afternoon and will impact “Bell Rock and Salt River.”

A spokesperson for the Power Corporation said the outages are “required to complete necessary maintenance work.”

So the place of the mural would be right at the entryway,” said Ward. “It's going to create a really great inclusive welcoming space," she added.

The Chief Environmental Health Officer has lifted the precautionary boil water advisory for the community of Wrigley and is asking the community to flush water faucets and equipment prior to using the system water.

Seven including a 17 year-old allegedly involved in trafficking in Hay River

A 17 year-old is facing charges following an alleged drug trafficking incident in Hay River that saw seven people arrested.  Officers say that the weekend incident is part of an “ongoing investigation” by the Hay River Detachment and the Territorial Crime Reduction Unit.
