The City of Yellowknife has worked on figuring out what caused an overflow in the Niven Lake area.
During the week of February 19 – 23, an inspection was done on all City sewage lift stations that service the area. During the inspection, no leaks were detected.
A City wide inspection of neighbouring areas was also conducted. The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and the Legislative Assembly were both included in the assessment. The City says that while water is flowing from the Co-op ditch into Frame Lake, a flow from Frame Lake to Niven Lake is not visible; but, it is believed that there is water making its way from Frame Lake to Niven lake.
MED Snowmobile Patrol Members placed pylons around the overflow area in Back Bay. The overflow is caused by continuous drainage from Niven Lake, which is experiencing abnormally high water levels. Please use caution when travelling in the area. pic.twitter.com/L2Sl7ctCg6
