Cause of overflow in Niven Lake to be determined

The City of Yellowknife has worked on figuring out what caused an overflow in the Niven Lake area.

During the week of February 19 – 23, an inspection was done on all City sewage lift stations that service the area. During the inspection, no leaks were detected.

A City wide inspection of neighbouring areas was also conducted. The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and the Legislative Assembly were both included in the assessment. The City says that while water is flowing from the Co-op ditch into Frame Lake, a flow from Frame Lake to Niven Lake is not visible; but, it is believed that there is water making its way from Frame Lake to Niven lake.

The City of Yellowknife added that staff will continue to monitor and inspect the area on a weekly basis.
