Federal Court of Canada sides with former Ndilo chief in wrongful dismissal case

Yellowknife, NWT – The Federal Court of Canada has sided with former Ndilo Chief Ted Tsetta in his wrongful dismissal case.

Tsetta was removed as chief in June 2012 after he reportedly sent a letter to the prime minister’s office asking for a forensic audit of the Yellowknives Dene band.

Tsetta applied to the Federal Court to have the firing overturned.

The court ruled in his favour, ordering the Yellowknives Dene to pay just over a year’s salary and benefits as well as his legal costs.

No word yet on how much that amount will be.

The band reportedly said that by sending the letter, Tsetta was acting unilaterally and was risking the reputation of the First Nation.
