SHAD comes to Yellowknife to help shape students’ futures

Spend time as a University student before you get to University.

That’s what the SHAD program offers.

High school students are able to spend a month living at a University campus in the summer. The program is for grade 10, 11 and 12 students focused on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) and entrepreneurship programs.

Kyle Blaney experienced the program himself. He says it’s a life changing program that is made easily affordable.

This year, we’re offering more bursaries than ever before, with over a million dollars being given out to our students. We want to make sure that financial need is no reason for them to be able to attend. It is free to apply, and it’s a life changing event. I did it myself and every year now I get to see students experience everything that I did. It’s fantastic.

Kyle Blaney will be in Yellowknife next week, appearing at conferences and assemblies all week.

While the program has always been offered to the Northwest Territories, this will be their first visit.

You can learn more at the NWT Educators conferences from Monday – Wednesday. Details can be found on the NWT Educators website.
