City of Yellowknife Mayor Mark Heyck has chosen to not seek a re-election.
Heyck announced the decision through a statement, via Twitter.
After much thought, reflection, and consultation with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election later this year.
It has been an absolute honour and a privilege to serve the people of Yellowknife for the past decade and a half.

The decision comes after several months of controversy surrounding the City, including a very public battle with City Councillor Niels Konge, as well as the recent MED scandal.
In the statement, Heyck highlighted his accomplishments during his time in office. He thanked his peers and co-workers and says he’s looking forward to future endeavors.
