New medical campaign designed to help doctor-patient dialogue

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority is launching a new campaign.

Choosing Wisely NWT will focus on working with doctors and other practitioners to have a more effective dialogue with patients.

The NTHSSA says they hope the campaign will lead to more high quality care. This includes more accurate antibiotic prescribing, as well as a more direct approach to diagnosing patients.

Co-Clinical Champion and Territorial Medical Director, Dr. Sarah Cook, says the Choosing Wisely is designed provide practitioners the confidence and tools to have clearer conversations with patients about appropriate tests and treatments.

The Choosing Wisely Northwest Territories campaign will provide valuable information and support to help patients and clinicians start important conversations about treatment options and make informed choices about their health.

The campaign is part of a National initiative hoping to eliminate potentially unnecessary tests, treatments and procedures.
