A new oil pipeline is expected near Fort Simpson.

It is to replace an old section of the pipeline that has been shutdown since November, 2016. It will connect oil fields in Norman Wells to another pipeline system in Alberta.

The company behind the project, Enbridge Pipeline, had their plan was approved by the National Energy Board; however, the project still needs to pass through the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board.

The pipeline is expected to cost $53 million.
