City working to fix Kam Lake sewage piping break

The City of Yellowknife is hoping to make a decision on the recent Kam Lake Road sewage piping break.

A proposed remediation will see Lime spread along the drainage area – with the sewage being removed with machinery. The frozen sewage is being trucked to the City’s lagoon facility.

Since sewage made it’s way from Kam Lake Road into Kam Lake, the City says they have been “consulting with the GNWT’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans to ensure all measures are properly taken to remove any negative impact the spill may have on Kam Lake.

Mayor Mark Heyck says the City is trying to make sure the issue is cleaned up with no lasting effects.

The City takes all spills very seriously and will continue to work with other levels of government and Kam Lake property owners to ensure there are no lasting effects.

The City says a public meeting is currently being organized.
