With the Holiday break coming soon for many people, the NWT-RCMP have issued a reminder that empty homes can be a target.
They’ve shared some tips on how to avoid losing your belongings to the Wet Bandits.
The list includes:
- If you don’t have a house sitter; ask a friend, family member or neighbour to check on your home once a day
- Purchase a light switch timer that can turn your lights on and off automatically according to a programmed schedule
- Think twice about posting your vacation plans on social networking sites (eg: Facebook, Instagram)
- Stop your mail and newspaper delivery or have a friend pick them up while you are away
- Ask your friend to move your car it so it looks like it’s been used and consider hiring someone to remove snow and ice from your driveway
- Lock all of your windows and doors
- Always lock the main door leading from a garage into a residence
Manitoba RCMP have also issued an alert on their Twitter account.
