Christmas Lights Across Canada took place last night at the Somba K’e Civic Plaza.
Mayor Mark Heyck led a countdown from ten; unfortunately, things did not really go as planned.
The main tree did not light up with the rest of the display. The mishap cued some laughter from the crowd and left Mayor Heyck a little puzzled.
“It’s the most stressful ten seconds of every year,” the Mayor said to the crowd. “We’ll trouble shoot this issue and have the tree lit as soon as possible.”

The tree was soon lit, adding the pièce de résistance to the night.
Sombe Ke is going to be lit this holiday season! Great job by @OurYellowknife, even if it took a little longer to get the big tree going! pic.twitter.com/PoJtiw0eO7

Before the display was turned on, Mayor Heyck spoke about the budget deliberations that took place this week. Heyck said a new tree was added to the budget.
The current tree has been in use for 20 years.
