Yellowknife RCMP rescue family out of Prosperous Lake

On Saturday, Yellowknife RCMP received a call that a vehicle had reportedly fallen through the ice at Prosperous Lake.

The Yellowknife Fire Division and RCMP officers reached the area by snow machine. A man and a woman, along with a child, were found.

They were rescued and transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital with no serious injuries.

The RCMP are highlighting this incident to show the dangers of travel on unknown ice thickness and road or ice conditions. They say motorists who travel into unknown areas “place themselves at risk, as well as those called to rescue them.”

Be careful and take the necessary precautions when travelling to prevent any dangerous situations on lakes, rivers and roads.
