Fatal fire in Tuktoyaktuk still under investigation

Yellowknife, NWT – RCMP say a fatal house fire in Tuktoyaktuk, in the territory’s northwest, is not being considered suspicious at this time.

The Mounties have not confirmed the name of the deceased but reports say 71-year-old Bessie Elias died from her injuries after being pulled from the burning building by firefighters last Friday.

The Mounties have confirmed to us that another woman was rescued from the burning three-bedroom house and has been removed from the community to have her injuries tended to.

The Fire Division in the community continues to investigate.
