HRHSSA looking into several delayed patient referrals

The Hay River Health and Social Services Authorty (HRHSSA) is conducting an internal audit.

Michael Maher, Public Administrator for the HRHSSA, made the announcement yesterday.

The audit comes after several patient referrals were either delayed or not completed in a 2-week span between October 13 – 26.

The Department of Health and Social Services said in a statement:

Of those referrals, 41 irregularities were found. Of this number, 21 patients are being contacted. 18 referral irregularities were corrected resulting in no impact to the client. Two clients had more than one referral.

Our first priority is the patient and ensuring patients received the appropriate care from health care providers,” said Maher. “We would like to apologize to any of our clients who received a delay in service, the Authority has taken appropriate steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Several instances also had the sharing of non-essential patient information with health care providers.

The Authority is bringing in additional health care staff from around the Territory to help complete the review.
