You could soon be able to raise chickens in the Northwest Territories.
The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment has signed an agreement to develop backyard agriculture by-laws.
These by-laws address beekeeping and the raising of chickens and goats.
Minister of ITI, Wally Schumann, says the North is focused on local farming.
“This policy development is a crucial step in guiding grassroots agriculture in our territory and supporting the transition to commercial enterprises while protecting public trust and public safety.”
The by-laws will have to be adjusted to fit specific community needs.
