Watch: An Emotional Justin Trudeau Pays Tribute To Gord Downie

Canadian music icon and The Tragically Hip frontman, Gord Downie, has passed away.

The singer had been suffering from a rare, terminal form of brain cancer.

The news was confirmed by a statement put out by the band on their website. The site crashed within minutes of the posting.

Gord was a vocal advocate for Indigenous rights, leaving The Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund as his legacy.

Gord Downie was appointed a member of the Order of Canada “in recognition of outstanding Indigenous leadership.”

Rest in Peace; in Gord we trust.
