Interfaith harmony promoted at annual World Religions Conference

Breaking barriers with peace and harmony.

The 10th annual World Religions conference is in Yellowknife this Sunday.

One of the coordinators of the event, Basheer Islam, was in the Moose FM studio. He said the event was designed for people to learn more about others.

It’s about promoting peace and tolerance,” says Islam. “[We want to] promote interfaith harmony; give people the opportunity to meet and greet other people from other faith groups. Just see each other as what we all are: people.

We have people representing different kinds of Indigenous Spirituality, Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and others. We want to make sure that people walk away with an understanding of more than just what is in front of them.

The World Religions Conference is being held this Sunday from 3-5 pm. It will take place at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.
