Liquor seizure in Fort McPherson

Fort McPherson RCMP are investigating a liquor seizure.

RCMP were conducting a traffic check on Dempster Highway, just north of the town.

48 mickeys of vodka, a 40oz bottle of rum, and 28g of marijuana were seized.

Fort McPherson is a restricted community, meaning the quantity of liquor that a person may possess is strictly limited.

No charges were laid at the time of the seizure.

RCMP investigators ask that should anyone have more information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact the Fort McPherson RCMP at 867-952-1111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, nwtnutips.com, (click on “submit a web tip”) or text: nwtnutips to 274637.

Snowkings’ organizers say volunteers play important roles in festival

Organizers say the initiative has helped to build local capacity around recovery, resilience and emergency preparedness. Cold alerts issued in NWT’s north and south as temps to dip into -50 zone

Environment Canada has issued several yellow cold warnings across the territory, including for Sachs Harbour, Aklavik, Fort Good Hope, Tulita, Norman Wells, Ulukhaktok, Colvile Lake, Deline, the Inuvik region, Tuktoyaktuk, Paulatuk, Tsiigehtchic and Fort MacPherson along with areas of the North Slave region. This evening the cold warning was also extended into the communities of Wekweeti, Whati and Behchoko, with wind chills of -50 degrees expected tonight.
