Tim Hortons’ main location under construction

Your morning coffee run is about to change.

The main Tim Hortons location, on 309 Old Airport Road, will be going under construction for the foreseeable future.

Owner of the franchise, Suzanne Desfosses, says the whole store will be absolutely brand new.

It’ll be a completely different store; totally unrecognizable. Double drive-thru. It’ll be similar to what you see in Peace River, or maybe High Level, just bigger. Our location needs to be bigger.”

In the meantime, Desfosses is bringing in a trailer that will serve as a make-shift restaurant. She says it has all of the fixings a Yellowknifer needs out of their ‘Timmies’.

It’ll have a working stove, the coffee burners. It’s going to have a working Iced Capp machine, which is good because Yellowknife loves Iced Capps.

There will be a drive-thru. Drivers will have to follow pylons, but there will be a speaker box and everything. It’s going to take a day or two to adjust but it’ll be like new soon.

Desfosses said that she had originally planned for the construction to take place earlier in the summer so that she could leave picnic tables for customers to sit outside.

There’s nowhere to sit at the trailer. So far, feedback from our regulars has been excitement, so we’re not too worried of lack of seating. We know it’s worth it in the end.
