Federal Government announces new plans to protect Canada’s Arctic

The Federal Government is looking to protect marine and coastal communities in the Arctic.

Minister of Transportation Marc Garneau announced $175,000 is being invested to protect arctic waters.

The funding is expected to create new shipping routes, an aerial system that aims to prevent boat spills, and marine training programs for indigenous peoples, among other initiatives.

The investment is part of the Oceans Protection Plan, where $1.5 billion is going towards a marine safety system.
