Hide Tanning Camp returning to Yellowknife

Dene Nahjo will be hosting its 2nd annual Urban Hide Tanning Camp.

The camp is a two-week celebration of Dene art, culture, technology and history in Downtown Yellowknife.

Founding member of the Dene Nahjo, Tania Larsson, says the camp is meant to inspire new tanners within the community.

“[The camp will] build healthy relationships, acquire cultural knowledge, deepen
their connection to the land, and increase public awareness of this important aspect of
Northern culture.

The hide tanning will run from September 4th-15th, near the Somba K’e Civic Plaza.

Opening ceremonies will begin at noon on the 5th.
