Fort Liard RCMP seize alcohol at NWT/BC border

Fort Liard RCMP seized liquor and a small amount of marijuana at a NWT/BC border crossing.

On August 11, police stopped roughly 20 vehicles at the border. Five of them possessed more than the legal limit for alcohol, under the Territorial Liquor Act.

RCMP believe that the vehicles were transporting the liquor to both Fort Liard and Nahanni Butte. Fort Liard has an alcohol restriction, while Nahanni Butte is under a full prohibition.

Media Relations for the Northwest Territories RCMP, Marie York-Condon, says that it’s important to stop any incoming alcohol to communities that have chosen to have restrictions or prohibition.
