Nunavut power company votes for new contract

A Nunavut based power company is signing a new workers agreement.

Employees at the Qulliq energy corporation have voted in favour of a new contract. The new collective agreement includes, “modest economic gains and increases to Special Leave provisions.”

Jack Bourassa, PSAC North Regional Executive Vice President, was very happy with the new deal.

The bargaining team worked tirelessly to ensure our members received a fair and equitable contract.

The voting took place both in-person and by mail-in ballots to ensure members in communities from across Nunavut had the opportunity to cast their ballot.

While the agreement has been confirmed, the signing scheduled for today was cancelled. Due to scheduling issues for multiple parties, it will be rescheduled for a couple of weeks from now.

The new four-year collective agreement will expire on December 31, 2020.
