Canada Summer Games: August 10 Recap

It was one of the longer days of the Canada Summer Games for the NWT athletes.

Golf kicked things off, as per usual. No real change for the NWT golfers as they head into the final day at the bottom of the pack.

Silver Linings Playbook

The NWT Men’s Soccer Team faced off against Yukon in a rivalry match-up to decide the final placing round games. The final score ended up being 1-1, with the NWT scoring their first goal of the tournament. The goal was scored by Viktor Gutierrez.

With nine goals against in its opening three games, including a tie in regulation, these Games mars the best NWT Soccer performance at this level for half a century.

The Women’s Volleyball Team played two matches. The first was a quick, but well-fought, sweep by Team Quebec. The second saw the girls actually win a set over Prince Edward Island. That match would end up being 3-1 (25-15, 25-23, 17-25, 25-16) for PEI.

The Men’s Volleyball Team had just the one match. They also were able to win a set over PEI; however, in a mirrored image with the girls, the boys also fell 3-1 (25-14, 21-25, 25-18, 25-15).

Leclerc and the Medleys

In Swimming, Gabriel Leclerc finished in 14th in the Male 100m Breaststroke B Finals. He had a time of 1:13.18.

Two Medley finals took place. The Male 4x50m Medley Relay saw the NWT Swim Team finish with a time of 2:05.45. The Female 4x50m Medley Relay finished in 11th as well, with a time of 2:11.22.

It’s the final day of competition before the closing ceremonies this weekend.

Action can be seen on TV, and on the streaming webcast.
