Bringing MRI machine to new hospital will take several years

Space for an MRI machine is being developed in the new stanton hospital.

Health and social Services Minister Glen Abernethy says that it is currently cheaper to send MRI patients to Edmonton but more expensive in the long run.

“It’s slow. Some of this stuff is taking longer than we want,” says Minister Abernethy. “I obviously want to see one. We do have to make a business case. If we’re going to ask for those kinds of dollars we do need to come up with a solid business case and we do refreshing that business case and we’ll keep doing so until the numbers work.”

Abernethy was not able to provide the approximate cost of an MRI machine in the north.

The health minister says the cost of medical travel is currently under review.
