Hay River fire ban could stay until snowfall

The fire ban in Hay River may be in effect until snow falls on the ground.

Fire Chief Ross Potter says the current fire ban will stay put until further notice.

“We’re still leaving the ban in place and it will likely be on all summer long or until we at least have moisture or snow on the ground,” says Potter. “At this point, all we’re allowing is approved fire pits at campsites and stuff like that. It’s safer for the community if we take care of business and make sure there’s no burning going on that could put us at risk anytime.”

The current fire ban in Hay River has been in effect since May.
