On Tuesday night, RCMP received 2 separate calls regarding planes being down in the Lutsel’ke area.
The first call came in at at around 7:00 pm, as a float plane had initiated it’s emergency beacon approximately 35 km’s south of Lutsel’ke. Yellowknife RCMP sent a helicopter to rescue the lone pilot.
The float plane was found upside-down in the water; the pilot suffered from minor injuries. He was transported back to Yellowknife.
During the time of responding to the first incident, roughly around 9:30 pm, a second call came regarding to a second plane in the Lutsel’ke area. The plane was overdue from a trip.
RCMP worked with JRCC Trenton. An RCAF CC-130H Hercules was deployed from 17 Wing Winnipeg to the area. The downed float plane was found in the water at 5:10 am on Wednesday morning. The pilot and passenger appeared to be in good condition and were transported back to Yellowknife.
According to the RCMP release, Yellowknife RCMP, Lutsel’ke RCMP, Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and Civil Aviation Search and Rescue worked in coordination to effect the location of the aircraft and rescue of the persons.
Transport Canada has been advised of the incidents.
