The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women is coming to Yellowknife.
MMIW will make a quick visit to the NWT capital this summer before the official inquiry takes place in November.
“Before the community hearings can take place however, much work must be done,” says Chief Commissioner Marion Buller. “These visits are to lay the ground work for the truth gathering process that will take place this fall. This ground work is critical. We learned that from our experience in Whitehorse. We need to prepare not only ourselves but also help the communities prepare for our arrival.”
The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous women will be in Yellowknife from November 13th to the 17th.
The Inquiry is also heading to 8 other cities across Canada.
Yellowknife, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, and Edmonton will be part of the visits from the inquiry.
The first official inquiry will start in Thunder Bay in September and continue through december.
