An initiative that debuted last week in Inuvik is almost ‘REDI’ for the Northwest Territories.

“It is essential that residents have the information they need to be a part of the engagements that will ensure these resources are used safely and sustainably.”

REDI stands for Resources and Energy Development Information. It’s designed to encourage NWT residents to, “[learn more] about the benefits, risks and potential for resource and energy development in the NWT.

The new public information campaign will come with an interactive website to be used as an education tool for a classroom-like setting.

Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, Wally Schumann, says that the resources available to the people can help power the future:

As work begins to evolve our legislative and regulatory environment in the NWT, understanding what resources we have and how we can benefit from their use or development is key. It is essential that residents have the information they need to be a part of the engagements that will ensure these resources are used safely and sustainably.

ITI plans on have the program spread across the NWT within the near future.
