MMIW confirms inquiry will continue through summer

The inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women will continue through the summer.

NWAC Interim president Francyne Joe says inquiry commissioner Michelle Audette confirmed the details.

“We’ve been informed from Michelle that some of the commissioners will be doing informal community grassroots meetings,” says Joe. “So she’s hoping to go to some of the indigenous events around the country, including the NWAC Annual General Assembly and the Assembly of First Nations AGA to share the information that they’ve gathered so far and whatever information she’s able to provide. Technicians are supposed to be meeting families over the3 summer. So she’s indicated that while there’s no formal advisory meeting taking place the inquiry’s supposed to be doing some work.”

This comes on the heels of the inquiry’s third resignation in 5 months.

MMIW Manager of community relations Tanya Kappo announced that she is resigning from the inquiry as of Thursday, June 15.
