Cross Country Canada awards NWT skiing coach

The Northwest Territories are now home to a nationally recognized skiing coach.

Miriam Green was awarded the Firth Award by Cross Country Canada.

The award honours women who make an outstanding contribution to skiing in Canada. It was named after Aklavik sisters, and 4x Olympic Athletes, Sharon Firth and Shirley Firth Larsson.

The Firth sisters, even when I grew up as a junior skier in Ontario, they were an inspiration for me. I still have a poster of them in my wall, right in front of me in my office. I feel humbled.

Green is known in the cross country community for her exceptional talent and technical precision.

She’s a natural teacher whom is able to share her knowledge with her young athletes.

Green was unable to make it to the presentation in Canmore, but Cross Country NWT’s Shawne Kokelj made the trip in her place.
