Aurora College breaking ground on new facility later this year

It was announced on May. 26th that Aurora College will be receiving over $10 million dollars to put towards a new heavy equipment operator and mine training facility.

It’s going to be appropriately named, the Centre for Mine and Industry Training.

Aurora College President Jane Archyuk says that the money will go a long way.

“The funding will help us continue to improve and modernize our Heavy Equipment Operator and other industry training programs, and prepare more northerns for more in-demand positions.”

The funding will be split roughly 60/40 between the federal and territorial governments. The government of the Northwest Territories will pay $6,316,282, while the federal government will take on $4,078,764.

The Centre will be built at the Thebacha Campus in Fort Smith and will feature a new stand-alone structure containing several vehicle bays, classrooms and office space. It will also have a storage area for all equipment.
