The NWT Opioid Task Force is holding its third meeting between doctors this week.
Health officials and the RCMP will discuss how to contain the rampant spread of opioids in the North.
“We have three working groups right now that have been working on the social marketing campaign,” said Chief Public Health Officer Doctor Andre Corriveau, who is a member of the task force. “We’re getting some videos finished right now that are going to be available soon.”
The opioid task force was created last fall after a significant rise in Fentanyl swept the territory.
Last November, eight Yellowknife residents were sent to Stanton Territorial Hospital after overdosing on Fentanyl, all of whom survived.
Less than 24 hours later, Yellowknife RCMP made a major Fentanyl bust on Borden drive.
Health Minister Glen Abernethy quickly formed the Opioid Task Force afterwards. The Task Force is expected to meet in private on Friday, May 26th.
