You may see or hear an alert on Wednesday across the NWT – but don’t worry.
The GNWT will issue a live test of NWT Alert Ready, which is the Northwest Territories public alerting system. The alert will be broadcast on radio stations and cable networks across the NWT on Wednesday, May 10 at 1:55 PM.
The system is currently under development and is expected to be rolled out during summer 2019. In the meantime, the system is being tested across the country.
“NWT Alert Ready is being developed to provide public alerts to NWT residents during emergencies and disasters and is part of the national public alerting system “Alert Ready,'” read a news release from the GNWT.
Alert Ready is intended to deliver critical and potentially life-saving alerts to Canadians through various media platforms, such as radio, TV, and web.
The system was developed in partnership with federal, provincial and territorial emergency management officials, Environment Canada and the broadcast industry.
