City of Yellowknife giving away a year of free rent

You could win 12 month worth of free rent in downtown Yellowknife just by submitting your business idea.

The contest “Win Your Space”was launched on April 28 by the City of Yellowknife. The purpose is to provide residents the chance to start or expand their business.

“This new and innovative project helps us meet one of Council’s priorities of strengthening and diversifying our economy,” Mayor Mark Heyck said in the news release.

The competition is open to residents over the age of 19 in Yellowknife, Dettah or N’Dilo. you can read the rules and regulations and submit an application at www.winyourspaceyk.com. The competition closes on May 28 at 1:00 P.M.

The city hopes the initiative will also help to revitalize the downtown area of the city, which currently shows the highest commercial vacancy rate in Yellowknife.

Indigenous languages pilot program to launch at NWT Legislative Assembly

A new pilot program will connect fluent Indigenous languages speakers to interpreter roles at the N.W.T Legislative  Assembly. The pilot program will run from May 2026 to March 2027, with one applicant selected for each of the N.W.T.’s official Indigenous languages: Dene Kǝdǝ́ (North Slavey), Dëne Sųłıné (Chipewyan), Dene Zhatıé (South Slavey), Dinjii Zhuʼ Ginjik (Gwich’in), Inuinnaqtun, Inuktitut, Inuvialuktun andTłı̨chǫ.
