The announcement was made Monday.

Currently First Air operates service between the two capitals three times a week on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s.

However, a growing demand for flights from people who live in one jurisdiction but travel to the other for work is what lead to the creation of the additional flight.

“This is something we were getting as feedback from our customers,” said Dan Valin, manager of marketing and communications for First Air.

“They wanted an additional option for the weekend, especially when you consider that there are a lot of workers that use that flight.”

Valin says that with their services offered right now, people have to fly in well in advance of their work week. Now they’ll be able to fly in the day before they start.

“To be able to fly on a Sunday, to be able to start your work week as a full week, there was a demand for that that we wanted to be able to meet,” Valin said.

The additional flight will be operated using a Summit Air RJ85 aircraft.
