Long John Jamboree a resounding success

Yellowknife, NWT – The president of the third annual Long John Jamboree estimates more than four thousand people took in the event on the weekend out on Yellowknife Bay.

Cory Vanthuyne says it’s a testament to the Northern spirit considering wind chills were in the neighbourhood of -40 most of the weekend.

“Last year when it was cold we got good volumes but people didn’t hang around as long. This year, for whatever reason people are around. We’re putting through some good numbers, I expect we’ll have somewhere in the neighbourhood of 4,000 people going through here on the weekend. It will be great.”

Jamboree vice president Janet Pacey was also the MC for the event.

She says Saturday night has to be considered the highlight, especially when hundreds of people crowded into the Blow Yer Socks Off tent and Brrr garden.

“The sense of community you get from having that many people in that small of an area is amazing to watch. Everyone was so excited to see the Burn on the Bay and the fireworks. Everyone who put those events on did such an amazing job, we’re happy to have them.”
