No room? No problem. Hotel capacity in Yellowknife going up

Hotel capacity in Yellowknife is on the rise.

Two days ago, tourism minister David Ramsay mentioned the city’s Explorer Hotel (pictured) had plans to expand for the second time in seven years.

The hotel’s owner has confirmed its intention to add another 75 rooms, which would give the Explorer 262 rooms in total.

Meanwhile, Nova Builders told the CBC it will press ahead with plans for a new hotel immediately adjacent to the Explorer.

Nova Builders’ Mike Mrdjenovich reportedly expects his hotel to offer 180 to 200 rooms.

Mrdjenovich has a long history of building in Yellowknife, including a number of apartment complex projects.
